GENETIC PREDISPOSITION

Genetic predisposition or the presence of heart disease in close family members is an important risk factor. Results of a Swedish survey from 2006 showed that more attention should be paid to the mother's medical history. The risk increases as high as 43% if the disease occurred in mothers, and much less, 17%, if the father was a heart patient.
It is possible that external factors have more influence on the increased risk rather than genetics, because children often spend more time with their mother and take their lifestyle. It is interesting to mention that even in people who practice a healthy life, do not smoke and exercise regularly, the risk of heart disease is 82%, if both parents had heart problems. However, this does not mean that the disease is inevitable, yet only that you should not waste your time doing nothing but you should regularly do the necessary tests and live healthy. If the disease is present in the family, it is necessary to conduct detailed tests every few years, starting in the mid 40s.
However, years before the first symptoms appear, CT of the heart can detect the buildup of plaque in the arteries, which progression can lead to heart attack. With first such inspection we determine the condition, while the next checks follows the potential deterioration.

With blood tests, beside the level of good and bad cholesterol, we can measure the presence of C - reactive protein which can indicate the formation of plaque. It is more common among people who are overweight, have high blood pressure, smoking or sedentary. The presence of C-reactive protein predicts the likelihood of a heart attack in women with relatively low cholesterol, and it’s considered that can signalize heart disease before the development of symptoms.
