16 Week Pregnat: Time To Travel

Fifth month has begun! It's a great moment for planing a trip.
But you must do everything to make your vacation fun, safe and healthy.

What happens with your body

In the next few weeks you will start to feel the movements of the baby. At the beginning, this will fee like slight vibration, but you will eventually learn to distinguish the moving, kicking, and even hiccups. As your baby grows, you can expect a tightening of the stomach and back pain. Breasts will also get swellen because their are preparing for production of milk. Given the fact that hormones are getting "wild" in order to prepare your body for "developing" of Healthy Baby, you will have a

Travelling during pregnancy

In the second trimester, you will feel good, much better than at the beginning of pregnancy (it's over with nausea, but  you have a belly). If you plan to travel during pregnancy, now is the time.
Doctors do not advise pregnant women to travel in the first trimester because of an increased risk of miscarriage. It is also not recommended to travel in the third trimester because of the potential possibilitie for premature birth.
If you decide to travel, first you need to consult your doctor. He will assess the state of your health. For example, if you have problems with swelling and water retention, your doctor will advise you not to go to places where is moist, as that will worsen your problems. Whan traveling you have to take with you, your last medical examination and some medication (eg drugs against diarrhea, heartburn and cold).
You must have in mind certain limitations. For example, if you are the doctor allowed you to travel, avoid any hard work during the trip and in the as ell as in hotel.
If it is hot, be sure to drink enough fluids, because dehydration can cause premature contractions. Also, you must regularly go to the ladies room, because you should not make it harder for the bladder to do it's job as it can lead to urinary tract infections.
Where to go: It all depends on what doctor told you. Much better are the destination that are hour or two away from home, than long plane trip. It is also recommended to stay in country rather than travel abroad. Certain exotic destinations have beautiful hotels, beaches and landscapes, but not enough medical staff.

All About Your Baby

Around sixteenth week the baby's kidneys are functioning on their own, producing urine. The bile is secreted also,  although he/she is taking all the necessary nutrients from you. Changing of her look is happening, as he/she is getting hair, which might even have a certain color. Thanks to the development of facial muscles, the baby can open and close his mouth, perhaps even smile.

How big is the baby?

In this 16 week, your little one is about 4 inches long and weighs about 3 0z.

Frequently asked questions about pregnancy

Pain in the back are really uncomfortable! What happening? How can I alleviate this pain?

Pain in the lower back is quite common symptom of pregnancy for many women. Since gaining weight and hormone loosens the joints in order to keep your baby comfortably settled in your uterus, many women complain on pain, fatigue, and sometimes even on a sharp pain in the lower back.
Here are a few things you can do to ease up the symptoms:

  • Wear comfortable shoes
  • Continue to do the exercises if you have already been doing it
  • Sleep on the left side with pillows that will support your spine and one between your knees
  • chose comfortable, ergonomic chairs
  • whenever you are lifting something, bend your knees (NEVER LIFT HAVY OBJECTS!!!)
  • If you have severe pain, you can drink paracetamol( but you need to consult with your doctor!!)
  • Massage from qualified physician can help.
And yes, whenever you lie, it is recommended that you lie on the left side. Here's why. Behind the uterus a major blood vessel called the vena cava (vena cava) is passing. If you lie on your back, you can press the blood vessel and endanger a steady flow of blood, causing dizziness or nausea and interrupt blood flow to the placenta. This vein is located on the right side of the uterus, so lying on your left side does not interfere with blood circulation. If you are still sleeping on the stomach, on the back or on the right, you may initially be uncomfortable, but you'll soon get used to the new position. Do not worry if you wake up on the back; simply turn into the correct position and go back to sleep.
Back pain should not be taken for granted just because it is a common symptom of pregnancy. You must tell your doctor if the pain in the lower back is dull and constant, as it is sometimes a symptom of delivery. If you have severe pain in the back, along with dizziness, vaginal bleeding or rupture of the water spirit, immediately go to the nearest hospital.

Multiple pregnancy

Most women who are waiting for one baby are allowed to travel even in the third trimester. However if carryng twins that risk is not recommended. If you decide to leave on vacation, be sure to consult with your gynecologist. The biggest concern for moms carrying twins is premature birth. Women with a risk-free pregnancy awaiting one baby usually can travel up until 36th week, but women who are expecting more the one baby should not move away from home. The general recommendation is that women carrying twins should stop traveling between 24 and 26 week of pregnancy.
If you do get the permission from your doctor that you leave on vacation, keep in mind this few tips:
  • While traveling, every few hours stretch your legs a bit and take a walk. Prolonged sitting increases the risk of forming dangerous blood clots in legs.
  • Go to ladies room regulary. Urinary retention can cause a urinary tract infection, which can be very painful and, therefore, cause a premature contraction.
  • Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration. Dehydration causes increased your and baby's heart rate which can also provoke premature contractions.
  • If you travel by car or plane, be sure to wear a seat belt.
  • Be sure to take some basic medical reports and the most recent analyzes with you
