Black Apricot

You may have noticed fruits with dark red, almost black color, shape and size thet is similar to cherry plum on the market.
You have probably wondered what fruit is that.
It's a black apricot (Black apricot Prunus dasycarpa; purple apricot, Black Velvet apricot, The 'aprium'). Her peel is slightly pockmarked and gives the impression as if it is coverd with tiny hairs, and the interior is intense yellow-orange-red color. It is very tasty, mostly resembles to the taste of apricot, but has aromas of plum. This is actually a hybrid of plums and apricots (2/3 of apricot and 1/3 of plum). Pits are most similar to the ones of cherry plum or slightly more rounded plum pits.
Black apricot is approximately three times sweeter than strawberry. Has more pronounced flavor in cakes.
According to some data, it originates from Asia (from where apricots are - in China they are cultivated for more then 4000 years),there is a large plantation of black apricot in California, USA.
Apricots are rich in vitamin A and iron, and such nutritive properties were transferred to the hybrid of apricot and plum. In addition, there are the B group vitamins, vitamin C, calcium, phosphorus and potassium. These nutrients are more concentrated in dried apricots
Among those who have tried black apricots there are two extremely different views. those who enthusiastically praise this new fruitand thosewho are skeptics who say that the original species is irreplaceable and they do not want to accept the fruit that they call "frankensteinian". Contrary to this view is the fact that they are the most delicious varieties of fruit are grown artificially, during hundreds and thousands of years of cultivation.
To exclude these moral and philosophical discussions - we can conclude that it is a real revelation and pleasure to give yourselfe new taste of enjoyment. And if you are not exaggerating and in addition it is healthy, there can not be anything wrong.
