Breastfeeding After Caesaren Section

Baby Enjoying Milk
There is no reason for breastfeeding, after cesarean section, to be unsuccessful. What is certain is that mothers after cesarean section can breastfeed
as well as mothers who have given birth naturally because the hormones that trigger the production of milk begin to secrete the moment when placenta is born.
The difference is possible, because coming of milk may be slightly delayed due to the need for longer recovery for mothers who gave birth by Caesarean section, but to successfully begin breastfeeding the only thing you need is colostrum which is creating even during pregnancy.
What can help you in order for breastfeeding to be successful is to ask nurses to bring you the baby as soon as possible to begin breastfeeding . The ideal time would be with in first hour after birth, but due to the influence of anesthesia it may not be possible, but it would be good to be in the first 4 to 6 hours after birth..
Ask the doctor to prescribe you pain killers that will not affect the baby. If you have pain do not avoid pain relief medication.
Plan to breastfeed as often as possible as this will stimulate milk production. In first weeks after birth you should have 10-12 feedings a day.
Do not hesitate to ask for help while looking for best position for breastfeeding, in hospital as well as at home.
Turkish sitting position
In the hospital due to protocols of the hospital it can happen that they do not bring your baby often enough for feeding, in that case you need to stimulate lactation yourself every two hours during the day and every four overnight.
It is very important to find a position in which you will feel comfortable while breastfeeding. For some mothers after caesarean "Turkish" sitting position is the most comfortable one. For others it is lying position. One of the positions that may be comfortable for you is to sit and while sucking that hold the baby in position "under the arm," ie. the baby's body is turned so that her feet are under your armpits and head in the height of your breast. If necessary, use pillows to support the back, or use a pillow for breastfeeding to better position your baby.
Do not hesitate to ask for help because the cesarean section is operation which requires longer recovery than natural childbirth.
